Are you using 'download accelerator' software?

This kind of software will look at the current page being viewed and examine it for links; then, while you are looking at the page, it will start downloading all of the linked pages in advance, 'just in case' you then decide to follow the link.

It's a great idea in theory. However, in practice, such software may well be poorly written and can place a heavy load on the Web server in question: it does not give the server a reasonable chance to serve anyone else with Web pages. So, while you're happily browsing, the server is probably feeling some strain!

If neither applies, we suggest having a very careful inspection of your PC, to see whether any viruses or other malware have infected your machine, causing this problem.
